Victoria

This is me, Victoria, the founder of Body In Motion Pilates! I am a qualified Body Control Pilates teacher and a registered Back4Good® practitioner with the BackCare charity. I hold a Level 4 qualification and I am part of the team of Body Control Pilates teacher trainers.

My style of teaching

I am all about precision and getting my clients to understand the basics of good biomechanics so that they can take ownership of their body and the way they move. Greater body awareness is the key to long-term postural change and injury prevention. My group classes are dynamic and physically challenging but never to the detriment of good movement technique. Instead of getting clients moving for the sake of it, I make sure that I keep everyone aware of their alignment throughout the exercises. I also adapt my classes to the needs of everyone involved so that everyone can get the most out of each lesson. In a 1:1 setting, my lesson plans are tailored to the specific requirements of each client. I take into account past physical issues and current movement impairments in a way that is most functional to my clients so as to help them to achieve their goals in the most efficient possible way.

Where does my interest in fencing come from?

I took up fencing in 2022 and instantly fell in love with the sport. From experiencing the impact of the sport on my own body, observing the way my fellow fencers move and talking to them about their various injuries, I quickly became interested in applying my knowledge of movement to the requirements of the sport.

I wasn’t always a Pilates teacher…

Prior to training to become a Pilates teacher, I worked as a press officer for the United Nations. At first, Pilates was just a hobby and a way to help me deal with the stress and bad posture that came from spending long hours sitting at a desk. I was doing Pilates several times a week and it became such a big part of my life that I began to consider becoming a teacher. After giving birth to my first child in 2013, I decided it was the right time to change my career and lifestyle!

I suffered for many years from lower back pain with extremely painful episodes resulting in reduced mobility. I haven’t had any episodes of lower back pain or sciatica since attending Victoria’s classes weekly.

Before doing pilates with Victoria I had lost confidence in my physical abilities. She has been patient but challenging and I have found myself growing slowly but steadily in confidence and strength. She is very intuitive and brings a lightness and humour to her teaching which I really appreciate.

When I started Victoria’s classes I just wanted to run 5K without any of the wrong kind of pain. I never thought I could be a proper runner because I'd had so many problems in the past. But now I've just signed up to a half marathon and I feel stronger than I ever have before. Victoria is the least judgemental and most encouraging exercise instructor I've ever had!
